AGRI4POL completed its first major field season

AGRI4POL completed its first major field season between April and July 2026. This research included a large trial on the attractiveness of different faba bean genotypes to pollinators with cameras (WP2: Genetics of crop floral traits governing pollinator attraction: future pollinator-smart crops).

At the beginning of June, the president of INRAE, Phillipe Maugin, visited Dijon with other dignitaries to observe the progress of AGRI4POL’s work there. They went to the INRAE CA-SYS platform – an experimental farm where one of the AGRI4POL project experiments was taking place. An experiment on faba bean genotypes and their pollination services was underway. Pollinators visiting different faba bean genotypes were monitored by automated cameras linked to an AI model and human observers.

As part of WP3: Management options to enhance pollinator benefits on farms and WP4: Multifunctional ecological infrastructure (EI) for pollinators and co-benefits from field to landscape scales, AGRI4POL also completed a landscape survey of 60 sites across 5 European countries in order to establish how semi-natural habitats, ecological infrastructures and mass flowering crops combine to affect pollinator biodiversity and crop pollination services in fruit orchards and arable farmland. Despite the changing weather of cold temperatures and heatwaves, the work got done and the business of processing the data starts.
