On 24 June, Andries Temme, a researcher from partner university Wageningen University & Research (WUR), gave an interview to the Dutch regional broadcaster Omroep Gelderland. In the interview, he emphasised the urgent need for agriculture to better support insect pollinators, saying that many crops - including apples, strawberries, beans and tomatoes - rely heavily on insects for pollination.
Temme's work includes investigating which crop varieties are most attractive to insects and using 3D imaging and modelling to analyse flower traits, helping to better understand what makes these crops appealing to pollinators.
WUR is involved in AGRI4POL's two Work Packages (WPs): WP2 (Genetics of crop floral traits governing pollinator attraction: future pollinator-smart crops) and WP3 (Management options to enhance pollinator benefits on farms).
